I believe one of the greatest opportunities to reach people with your message is through digital distribution of media. I feel that the best method at this time is podcasting. Podcasting is essentially delivering episodic content online. It is my desire to expand the mission of BaptistBasics.org through podcasts. Click on the images below to learn more about our podcasts.
What is a Podcast?
Wikipedia defines a podcast as "A podcast is a type of digital media consisting of an episodic series of files (either audio or video) subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication." It is one of the fastest growing methods of distributing content today. Many churches are now utilzing podcast technology to distribute audio and video of their services. Many radio programs now offer downloads of their broadcasts in podcast form.
I think that podcasting offer a tremendous opporunity to reach and audience with your message. Basically anyone with a computer, a microphone, and an internet connection can get started. The "on demand" style of distrubution means that you can listen to podcasts on your schedule. It also allows for shows on niche subjects that would never get funding in a more traditional format. For Christians, I think these factors mean that podcasting can be a tremndous tool to reach people.
There are a couple of ways to download and listen to podcasts. You can visit the website of the podcast provider and download episodes individually. By far the simplest way is to use software to subscribe to the podcast's syndication feed and automatically download episodes. Some software I would recommend trying:
- iTunes on Mac and Windows - FREE
- Juice for Mac, Windows, and Linux - FREE
- Instacast on iOS - $1.99
- Downcast on iOS - $1.99
- BeyondPod on Android - Free Trial, $6.99
- DoggCatcher on Android - Free Trial, $4.99
